Hypnosis
and Stress Control
Hypnosis is well-suited for pain
and stress management, as it is a natural way to relax. Most of us have a
tendency to tense our muscles when we are stressed, and pain is one of the
biggest stressors there is. Learning to relax with the help of hypnosis offers
us relief from pain and stress in a number of ways:
1. We learn to focus our attention
elsewhere, on something pleasant, instead
of focusing on the pain or stressful event.
2. Relaxation releases endorphins,
the pleasure hormone.
3. We begin to feel that we have
some control over the pain or stress.
4. We can include spiritual words
or phrases in our self-hypnosis sessions which may induce healing and comfort.
For these same reasons, hypnosis
has been proven to aid in healing. Some hospitals are now employing
Hypnotherapists to teach their patients relaxation techniques before or after
surgery.
Stress in fact is a good and
positive emotion that our subconscious mind uses to allow us to focus on an
important event or subject. At times the
subconscious may get stuck in a pattern
that changes good stress into a negative event without allowing you to vent the
pent up emotion. Hypnotherapy allows you to learn to deal with stressful events
in new and positive ways.
