Question:
Why should a Physician refer to a Clinical Hypnotherapist?
Ever since the Mayo Clinic proved in 1955
that hypnotic healing suggestions caused bones to knit in one fourth the normal
time, great strides have been accomplished using hypnosis. Hypnosis has long
been recognized as effective with pain management, weight control and smoking
cessation. However, people are unaware of its effectiveness in accelerating
healing and also as an adjunct to all conventional therapies. Science has
now discovered there are actual physical Mind/Body links through which our mind
affects our organs, hormone, immune, and healing systems. They are the chemical
messengers created in the brain called, "neuropeptides". Thoughts,
feelings, or mental images create specific neuropeptides which are in turn
released into the bloodstream and circulate to specific organs, glands or areas
within the body. And since most every cell in our body has a neuropeptide
receptor, it is possible to communicate to our body down to the cellular level!
Question:
As a Physician: How do I know I am referring to a
qualified
Hypnotherapist and not a lay hypnotist?
Ask the hard questions: Does the Hypnotherapist have
a degree from a post-secondary education facility. Is it a physical
structure school. Beware of internet and video courses. Is this facility fully
accredited by the Dept. of Education, the same as any other university or
college in the state. And, has
he/she completed at least 300 hours credit in the study Hypnotherapy and
its related courses?
Question: Is
the Hypnotherapist certified by a non-profit certification agency?
Non-profit certification agency will require
continuing CEUs, and a minimal level of verifiable education, in the
field of hypnotherapy alone! They also
require the Hypnotherapist operate under a stringent code of ethics! Also, is
Hypnotherapy their full time career or a weekend sideline? These few questions
will rule out any lay hypnotist. Also be careful with other licensed medical
professions. These other occupations must meet the same requirements to practice
Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is not taught in medical school today. A Licensed
Psychiatrist, Social Worker or Psychologist may be excellent in their field, but
that does not make them a Hypnotherapist. You do not learn Hypnotherapy from an
internet or video course, nor at a weekend seminar at Palm beach.
Question: How
much do Hypnotherapist charge and do they accept insurance.
Major
Insurance companies will accept billing from Clinical Hypnotherapist, when the
therapy is related to a diagnosed conditions. Hypnotherapist do not treat
diagnose or prescribe. As in all healing arts
professions, rates reflect the quality of services provided.
The average 90 minute session rate is $89 - $125. Some clinics will offer
more reasonable rates for multi-session programs. Beware of 35-65 dollar session
rates. This is most likely a part time lay hypnotist. Also forget about hotel
room hypnosis. Please do not refer your patients to traveling road shows that promise everything or
your money back! Success with
clinical hypnotherapy is not a one-session cure all gimmick. Multiple sessions
are necessary for lasting results. Qualified
Hypnotherapy clinics will often offer a (free first consultation)
for new clients to introduce and educate them of the benefits of
Hypnotherapy.
